Dedicated Camera
Dedicated camera is a good device to have when you are a photography loving person or those who don’t prefer to use the one that already present on their smartphone. A dedicated camera have all the basic features we need from a reliable lens and image processing to the manual adjustment that defer from one level to the other. However, low-end or regular digital cameras may not going to be better than most mid-end smartphones today due to their limited capabilities.
Just like with everything, looking for a camera can be as easy as getting one from your nearby store or some online shopping platform to doing a long research on what exactly each one of them can offer to you and it all related to us as the user. A good camera will never be cheap and vice versa so make sure to allocate some budget if what you are looking for is something that can produce a better image quality than what we already have.
In the market, there are various types of camera or image capturing devices but the common models are point-and-shoot, DSLR, and Mirrorless. Among all of them, point-and-shoot is the cheapest and easier to use since this model is already available and widely used in the past so at least we have handled them before. The latter however is fairly newer and more popular today so it is not surprising to see people considering to pick either of them and similarly, they have top models with high-end capabilities.
Before DSLR is swiping up the market and then followed by Mirrorless camera, we also have SLR which is the older version of what we have as the digital model now. When considering between these cameras, the key is to pick based on what you need because not all of us have the same preference and budget to spend. If what you are looking for is a better camera that will give you a better result as well, the choice will mostly ends up between the DSLR and Mirrorless.
These models commonly come with a bigger image sensor which is great if you are looking for a camera that will give you a result better than your average smartphone and interchangeable lens to give you more freedom when matching the device with your subject. In addition, they have lots of manual adjustment to fit enthusiast and professional alike to tailor their shots as needed.
About Canon EOS Rebel T6
If you already make up the mind and decide to find one to give you certain result, now is the time to find the model among the vast options. To quicken the searching process, we can start from a well-known brand or those you love to make sure we are getting the best quality possible with our budget and one of them is Canon. We are sure you also agree that this brand is popular among beginner and professional alike with their reliable products.
In case this is your first time looking for a better camera or just want to get a nice option yet not ready to use the higher-end model, the EOS Rebel T6 will be a very suitable option for you. This DSLR is placed among the entry-level cameras Canon currently have along with their T5 which has been released earlier. While it is suitable for starter who just want to get the basic things into the hobby, the image quality produced with the camera is not going to disappoint you at all.
Canon EOS Rebel T6 Design
When first seeing EOS Rebel T6, the earliest thing come to our mind is the basic design because it looks just like any DSLR out there with that bulky and sturdy form which is not very friendly when it comes to transporting. This camera is sold separately with only housing and with the lens as well that will affect some of its capability later and the one we used as an example today is the one bundled with 18-55mm lens. If you ever use the younger brother T5, the sensor used here stays the same and it is the APS-C or Crop sensor 22.3mm x 15.9mm and what makes them different is its processor because the one used here is an upgraded Digic 4+ rather than Digic 4. Image quality with EOS Rebel T6 is very good and for a new user who never used a DSLR before, we are sure this image level will please you since the JPEG images will show you a good level of saturation and warmth.
At the other hand, the Picture Styles are great when you need a way to tweak the tones depend on what kind of shot or scenery we will take. When you are taking Raw images, we can see that there is a little subdued here compared to JPEG with less contrast so we can get plenty of scope to process files depend on our taste later. As for the zoom capability, since this model has 18-55mm lens, its range is only up to 3x.
Canon EOS Rebel T6 Video
Moving into the video recording capability, we also can use EOS Rebel T6 for a footage recording when needed such as for family gathering or to record something on the way and edit them later with your PC. It is supporting 1080p resolution which should be enough to give you a pleasing video quality and for a beginner camera, unfortunately we can’t have the 4K yet. What’s a bit annoying is we have to rotate the dial back to move from shoot to record video and its shutter is fairly loud.
About Nikon D3400
Because we have so many good options out there, it is good to also consider what the competitor will offer to you so we can see the options and decide which model will be the better choice. If beginner DSLR is what you need, besides EOS Rebel T6, we also have the D3400 from Nikon which is here to upgrade the old entry-level favorite D3300 with some small enhancement to attract more and new users yet, in our opinion they are more similar than different.
Nikon D3400 Design
Nikon D3400 is probably among the lightest DSLR in the market because without the lens, it’s housing with battery and memory card only weighing about 445 grams which is lighter than T6 but, due to this weight, it feels unsteady when mounting a heavier lens than their smallest model. Like many similar cameras, however, there is the soft rubber around the grip to improve the texture and grip. We also love the top button which is easy to grip and rotate while as or bundling, the one we used here is with 18-55mm lens.

Moving into what this camera can offer to you, the DSLR is coming with crop sensor or APS-C with sensor size at 23.5mm x 15.6mm, very similar to what we get on the EOS T6. What makes this model an upgrade for its younger brother is now it doesn’t have optical low-pass filter in front of the sensor which makes it possible to record a very good level of details in your images especially when using a high-quality prime lens, the one with a pro-oriented zoom or a macro optic.
However, if you are only using the one 18-55mm bundle, the wide angle and telephoto extremes are not going to be very pleasing. At wider aperture, the image result are rather soft in the corner and edges of the frame but when tried in an intermediate focal length, it is still possible to get a very distinct sharpness in the middle.
Nikon D3400 Video
As for the video capturing ability, Nikon D3400 is very similar to T6 from Canon because it can only capture 1080p video and there is no 4K here but we are pretty satisfied with the quality. What we are not very please is as a modern model, this DSLR somehow still not equipped with Wi-Fi for a fast and reliable data transfer in which T6 and many other point-and-shoot already have. What we can rely on here is only Bluetooth with the help of SnapBridge.
Comparison
Now, let’s compare Canon EOS Rebel T6 with Nikon D3400. As you may already know, both of these DSLRs are providing a good image quality for an entry-level model and we are satisfied with the result but Nikon D3400 somehow show a slightly better result in higher ISO. They have the same video resolution but T6 also has Wi-Fi in which D3400 only has Bluetooth.

Conclusion
All in all, the decision is all yours to make because we may have different preference and taste so it is better to pick based on your own judgment. Comparing the two, we will go with Canon EOS Rebel T6 because it is more affordable and already a good option so we can save more for a future purchase when our skill is more advanced to get a higher model.
