DCS-5222L Review

Measuring by 4.72 inches x 4.06 inches x 5.11 inches, D-Link DCS-5222L is quite a bulky camera. It has a more-or-less tubular body, with the camera having a ball shape sitting conveniently on the top. While bulkiness is not very good to go with a surveillance camera, this issue is somehow paid off by the exceptional flexibility of mounting and placement. D-Link DCS-5222L comes with a sophisticated design that consists of two parts, the first is the flat white base which functions both for mounting and for allowing the the upper assembly to rotate, the second is the black spherical enclosure that sits atop, holding the lens and camera system and is able to tilt in a vertical direction. The lens is accompanied by four infrared LEDs to provide illumination in the night vision mode. (Read also : DCS 5222L vs. DCS 5020L)

For connectivity, D-Link DCS-5222L provides two options: Wi-Fi and Ethernet. For the wireless connectivity, D-Link DCS-5222L has a built-in internal antenna, supporting IEEE 802.11n/g/b standards for compatibility with newer and older Wi-Fi versions. For the wired connectivity, there is a 10/100 Base-TX Fast Ethernet port. The speeds, both in wireless and wired, are decent. The connection rarely drops, ensuring optimum reliability in all situations. Having two connection options is very convenient. If you don’t have Wi-Fi, you can use the Ethernet cable instead. Or, you can just attach the Ethernet cable as a backup in the case that the Wi-Fi fails.

- Ultra-smooth 340° pan and 120° tilt capability with 10x digital zoom lets you keep an eye on a larger area - HD 720p video resolution gives you crisp, clear and detailed live and recorded video day or night with 26 feet night vision

If you are familiar with the brand, you are perhaps well-aware that D-Link is primarily known for their networking products. So, there is no surprise when they implement some of their knowledge into their wireless network camera. D-Link DCS-5222L can be integrated with the mydlink service, which is used to control and configure various D-Link products, such as the routers and NAS devices, remotely and easily.

D-Link DCS-5222L is armed with a ¼” Megapixel Progressive CMOS sensor, which is able to provide 720p maximum video quality at up to 30 fps. The image quality is decent. It is sharp and crisp enough to see the inside of the room very clearly. Even at night, it is still very visible, thanks to the high-performance infrared system. D-Link DCS-5222L does not support cloud storage, but there is a memory card slot that supports up to 32 GB capacity.
