Leica D-Lux 6 is a compact digital camera that is great if you are looking for something lightweight and highly portable, yet able to capture images with accurate colors and superior precision. Coming with the newly developed, ultra-fast Leica DC-Vario-Summilux lens, Leica D-Lux 6 offers outstanding power and performance. It is also acclaimed for the excellent tone curve and color balance, and you can’t mistake the elegance of a Leica camera. Thus, Leica D-Lux 6 becomes an excellent choice not only for personal purposes, but also for professional applications.
Leica D-Lux 6 comes with an all-black housing, with just a few chromed elements to set unobtrusive counterpoints and to refine the clarity of the design. There is the red Leica logo stamp on the front side of the camera, just next to the lens. However, unlike Panasonic LX7, which has a lot of resemblances with this camera, Leica D-Lux 6 does not have any textured gripping surface. As the effect, the camera appears smooth, classy, and elegant, but you may need to be more careful in handling the camera as it is much easier to slip off from your hands. The layout of the controls is neat and intuitive, allowing easy and quick operation. The dial control is great, precise and responsive. On the rear, there is a 3” LCD screen that provides stunningly accurate image previews with the high 960k-dot resolution.
Leica D-Lux 6 is armed with the new, extremely fast Leica DC-Vario-Summilux 4.7 – 17.7 mm (24 – 90 mm equivalent) F/1.4 – 2.3 ASPH lens. This lens has set a new milestone for compact digital cameras with its outstanding speed across the entire range of focal lengths. The lens has 11 elements in 10 groups, five of which are aspheric, four of the aspheric are double-sided. The lens has a Nano Surface Coating to minimize reflections. The lens has an aperture control ring and a switchable neutral density filter. The lens is ultra-fast and bright, and the built-in optical image stabilization ensures uncompromising image clarity. It has the maximum 3.8x optical zoom.
The AF system is great and reliable. It has 23 contrast detection points with face detection, tracking functions, and an AF assist lamp to assist in low-light situations. With 12800 max ISO and 1/4000s max shutter speed, Leica D-Lux 6 has enough power to be flexible and versatile on demanding creativity and photography tasks.
The 10MP CMOS sensor and image processor work together to allow burst shooting at full resolution at 11 fps, for up to twelve frames, which is pretty great. However, if the AF tracking is enabled, the continuous shooting speed falls down to only 5 fps.
With just 10 MP optical resolution, Leica D-Lux 6 may not be able to produce big-sized images. However, the color quality is exceptional. The tone curve and color balance are highly accurate. The colors are deep and full, and the noise level is significantly lower than most compact digital cameras. Hence, for the performance and color quality, Leica D-Lux 6 is a notable product to be considered.
