The two cameras were released around the same time in 2013.They share specifications as such having an image sensor type of 28 in2 while their optical zoom range is at 5X. They boast waterproof ,shock and freeze housing,panorama mode,HDMI port and HDR processing. Unfortunately,none of them has the external microphone jack, raw shooting capability,external flash shoe, manual exposure mode and the built in view screen features.Their screens are almost of the same size with the Sony being 0.3″ larger bringing us to the differences.

The Sony camera boasts a faster shooting speed by 2 shots per sec and better sensitivity to light by 2 f-stops more than its Nikon counter part. The cyber shot also has a higher resolution of 18MP vs 16MP for the Coolpix. The Sony is lighter than the Nikon by 2 oz ,thinner by 0.375″ and smaller by 5in³ than the Nikon making it not only more portable but also more ergonomic. On the other hand,the Nikon is significantly cheaper than the Sony with a range of more than USD 900. It also has the WIFI,GPS and 3D features over the Sony and has better video capture at 1080p 30fps as compared to its counterpart at 1080i 60fps.

With that comparison of Sony Dsc TX30 vs Nikon Coolpix AW110, I would recommend the Sony over the Nikon for it will give you better value for your money by giving you better picture quality, is more portable and has a better look than its Nikon competitor.
